This policy explains what information LightChapters (“we”, “us”) handles, and how. It covers both our website and the internal tools we use to publish our books.
LightChapters is an independent publisher of short non-fiction books, a publishing imprint of Pinnacle Med, which decides how the personal information described here is used and is responsible for it. You can reach us at support (at) lightchapters.com.
When we connect our publishing tool to Google Drive, it uses the Google Drive API with the drive.file scope only. This scope lets the tool create files in our own Google Drive and access only the files it has created — it cannot see, read, or change any other file in the Drive. We use it for a single purpose: to store the free bonus documents that accompany our books and to generate shareable download links for them.
LightChapters’ use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell this data, we do not transfer it to others except as needed to provide the feature above or as required by law, and we do not use it for advertising.
If you sign up for a free reader bonus, we collect the name and email address you enter. These are handled by our email provider (AWeber) so that we can send you the bonus you asked for and, occasionally, a note about a new book.
With your address, the sign-up form also records which book you came from: the book’s title, its Amazon identifier, the link to the bonus you asked for, and a tag that says you signed up from a book’s bonus page. We use these only to send you the right bonus and to know which book brought you to us.
Some of our books are about health: cancer, the nervous system, digestion. The title of the book you came from can therefore say something about your health, or the health of someone close to you. We treat it as sensitive: it is used only for the two things above (to send you the right bonus, and to know which book brought you to us), it is never shared with advertisers or combined with other information about you, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
We use the information above only to deliver the bonus, to keep you updated if you have opted in, and to run and improve our own publishing process (except the book’s title, which is used only for the two things named above). We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell personal data.
We rely on your consent, given when you sign up; you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing or writing to us.
We rely on a few well-known services to operate: Google Drive (bonus file hosting), AWeber (email sign-up and delivery), Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (where our books are sold), and our web host. Each processes data only as needed to provide its part of the service. AWeber and Google store and process data in the United States and other countries, under their own data-protection terms.
You can unsubscribe at any time from any email we send, and you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you or to delete it by writing to the contact address above.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at the contact address below and we will put it right. You may also complain to a data protection authority: in Singapore, the Personal Data Protection Commission; in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the authority where you live.
We may update this policy from time to time; the “last updated” date above will change when we do.
